Teenaged President

We’ve been watching a new long Netflix series, Adolescence, this week. Each of the four installments are approximately 60 minutes in length and I’ve watched two so far. I know there are those who might muscle through the entire program in a day or two, but an hour is about all I can stomach in a sitting.

It’s disturbing.

The show opens with a large battalion of police officers forcing their way into a home that looks like all the other homes surrounding it. It’s early in the morning and the authorities have come to arrest one of the family members on suspicion of murder charges.

The accused? The youngest member of the household, 13 year-old, Jamie.

I’m only halfway through the series, but I’ve learned a lot in the two hours I’ve invested in the show. In fact, I’ve learned things I wish I knew nothing about. Terms like incel and manosphere. Names like Andrew Tate.

What can I say? I don’t swim in online communities with misogynists and scumbags.

That being said, I do have some abilities when it comes to research and learning about new topics. So, I did a little bit of sleuthing.

During my brief dip in the cesspool of the manosphere, I noticed Tate’s name paired with that of convicted sexual assault perpetrator, Conor McGregor. Birds of a feather and all that, I suppose. And, because a flock of misogynistic deviants always has room for more members, guess who is a champion of them both?

None other than convicted sexual abuser in chief, Donald J.Trump, whose administration both invited McGregor to his most recent (and last) inauguration and to the White House for St. Patrick’s Day, and more than likely played a role in removing Tate’s travel ban and welcoming him to Florida last month.

You can’t make this shit up. The person who sits in the Oval Office and is doing his best to dismantle this country for the benefits of his oligarch cronies has cultivated friendships and extended favors to these despicable men.

But, as DJT invites sexual predators into this county as guests, Americans are being told that the real perils to our society are immigrants and transgender folks?

Make it make sense.

The president of the United (ha!) States instead of avoiding people of ill repute, elevates them and offers them a platform from which to spew their warped perspectives and opinions. All of this while claiming that the threat to America comes from French professors, green card holding residents and tourists.

We are living in the worst of times.
