Knowing how much I love fashion, and the seriousness with how I take getting dressed, it should probably come as no surprise that I put a lot of thought into my wardrobe when I travel. The fact that I rent a number of items a month with my Rent the Runway membership can make piecing together a color palette a challenge. Collecting separates and creating a mood that will hopefully anticipate and meet my needs (and the weather) when I’m thousands of miles from home, while meeting my commitment to traveling with carryon baggage exclusively, is a task, indeed,
But, it’s one I adore.
In anticipation of next week’s trip to Germany, today I began finalizing my potential packing list. Generally, I hone the list down as I get closer to departure and the weather forecast and itinerary become more focused. The list below is a master list and I still have a few things to determine, like what I’ll be wearing to travel, from jacket to shoes and everything in between, and what I no longer find necessary to pack.
The vibe I’ve been feeling of late, when it comes to style, is decidedly 70s. Between the brown leather trench and the wide legged corduroys I’ve added to my wardrobe recently, I’m definitely catching a mood that feels fun and, dare I say?, trend setting. The silhouette is flowy and full and sexy in a much more subtle way than skinny jeans.
Oh – did I mention it was chic and easy to wear, too?
Weeks ago, I selected blue, brown, white and green as my color scheme for the trip. I made a list named “Germany” on my RtR app and began scouring the site for items to match my vision. After receiving my second to last shipment for the month, I’ve probably finalized my rentals (they’re numbered 1-5 on my envelope list pictured above) and have started pairing the items to figure out accessories and details.

What do you think?
What do I think? I think it looks like a lot of patterns for a woman who usually is inclined to solid colors – a situation with which I am thrilled. Knowing that I have a generous number of solid articles of clothing to mix in makes me comfortable with the somewhat out of character design choices. There will be patterns worn together and patterns paired with solids. It’s going to be fun, like fashion is supposed to be, in my opinion.
And I can barely wait to get started. Auf nach Deutschland!
