10 things that are not going to change

  • The love I have for my people and pets.
  • My opinion that billionaires should not exist.
  • The commitment I have to protecting and advocating for those who identify as LGBTQIA+.
  • My belief that MAGA supporters are lacking in intelligence and a soul.
  • A sense that this country is heading to place I don’t want to be.
  • The confusion I feel about the fact that anyone would endorse and vote for a person who says the most hideous things about women, immigrants and those who are differently abled.
  • Fear that what comes next will not be good, particularly for those who are not white, cis and male.
  • A serious appreciation for dual citizenship and the opportunity to get out of here.
  • The sadness in my heart as I try to accept that such a piece of shit human is who the majority of voters in this country want as their president.
  • My hope that working to be kind and sharing what I have with those less fortunate will help get me through the 20 months until I can retire and get the fuck out of here.

  1. I have followed this blog to many years and I have enjoyed your writing. This post election post has me concerned. You may want to consider pulling an early pension because you’ll never last 20 months. Protect your well being at all costs and leave now.

    1. I appreciate your thoughts and the advice – along with your longevity as a reader. ☺️. Today was a difficult day. It isn’t easy to see queer students and colleagues as distressed as they are by the election outcome. As I told a 7th grader today, the good people in your life aren’t going anywhere. I try to be one of those.

Thank you so much, this means the world to people like me. I was born female/intersex and identify as a lesbian. Life hasn’t been easy for me, and although things have improved drastically for people like me over the decades, in terms of acceptance, it seems as if we are about to take a monumental step backwards. This terrifies me.

    1. Nice to hear from you Thomas. I hope you’re doing ok with the election results – I find it so difficult to believe that the majority of this country wanted that POS to be their present. It’s inexplicable and stressful even for a middle aged heterosexual. I hesitate to call myself an ally because I don’t think that’s a name one can bestow upon themselves, but I will never stop standing up for those who have been discriminated against and marginalized. I’m here for you – and so are so very many others. ♥️
