Bloom where you’re planted

Over the more than 30 miles I walked last week in Chicago, it seemed like everywhere I looked there were flowers – hibiscus, black eyed susans, coleus, lilies and hydrangea were all present and accounted for.

It was beautiful.

Since arriving back at home, I’ve made it a point to take notice of all of the gorgeous flowers here, in Albany. We’re at the point in summer where everything is lush and popping with a rainbow of colors – all we have to do is look around and take it all in.

My own garden is blowsy with volunteer snapdragons and sunflowers alongside perennials such as echinacea, daisies, bee balm and black eyed susans. It’s truly a feast for the eyes, even though the iris are completely out of hand and begging to be divided.

That, however, is autumn work. For now, I’m just going to enjoy whatever is blooming, wherever I find it.
