While I like to think of myself as being an independent thinker, it seems I am a tad susceptible to advertisements on social media. In the past few years, I’ve fallen under the marketing spell of Thirdlove (bras), Allbirds (shoes), Andie (swimsuits) and TruEarth (laundry detergent strips) with mixed results. The products I’ve purchased have been mostly good, but nothing really blew me away, at least not to the same degree as I read in the reviews from other customers.
Most recently, my feeds have been full of ads for makeup guru Bobbi Brown’s newish line of cosmetics and skincare, Jones Road. The algorithm was right on the money this time – middle aged, dry skinned woman seeking skin care to give luminosity and added moisture. Yep, that’s me. Well done, Meta!
The specific product advertisement that I found myself bombarded with was for something called Miracle Balm. According to the marketing I received, it’s a skincare/cosmetic designed to add moisture and a subtle glow wherever you might dab it.
I was intrigued.
I’m not much of a makeup person, at least not at this point in my life. My days of applying eyeliner and mascara daily are long gone and I’ve never worn foundation or base because I can’t understand how covering one’s skin in a layer of makeup could possibly be beneficial.
But, this stuff seemed different… To begin, the ingredients list starts with clean items such as jojoba oil and beeswax instead of chemical compounds that I can’t pronounce. There are no sulfates, parabens or phthalates. Miracle Balm also is versatile and is suggested to be worn on cheeks, eyelids, lips, and wherever else you may want a little glow. In a video I watched, Bobbi Brown even suggested that any product remaining on one’s fingers could be used to tamp down fly away hair!
I needed to try it.
A couple of weeks ago I made my way to Greenwich Avenue in NYC to one of the two Jones Road storefronts. The shop was small and intimate with products prettily displayed and tidily robed representatives happy to provide guidance with color choices and application tips. In no time flat, I was happily radiating a fresh glow and walking out the door with my very own simple white jar in a shade called Dusty Rose.
Since my purchase, I’ve used my Miracle Balm almost daily. Generally, I apply my usual moisturizer (these days it’s Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar) first and give it a few minutes to sink into my perpetually dry skin. Then, using just my fingers, I tap on and blend Miracle Balm on my cheekbones. Anything left on my fingers gets wiped on my eyelids and lips. It’s simple, fast and, I think, effective in adding just a hint of color.
I love it.
In fact, I’m hoping to purchase Miracle Balm in a couple of different shades as soon as Jones Road makes the smaller size containers available, something I hear they tend to do a couple of times a year.
Tell me – what have you been persuaded by advertising to purchase? How did it go??

I bought Revant gel eyeliner for mature women! Like it very much.
