If you are not deeply concerned about the direction this country is heading in at breakneck speed, skip this post and make yourself aware of what is happening. I’ll give you some key words to search, ok?

  • Mahmoud Khalil
  • Federal Education Department
  • Social Security
  • Ukraine
  • Greenland
  • Canada
  • Illegal protests on campuses
  • Transgender citizens
  • Tax cuts for the rich
  • Tariffs

Ok, so you’re back and feeling some combination of irate, appalled, disgusted and scared?

Yeah, me too.

I truly believe we are at a place in the history of the U.S. where it is time to put up or shut up. This country is being taken by a government which is subservient to a wannabe dictator king and the richest man in the world.* It’s like a bad Marvel Comics cartoon.

And – it’s time to decide, and then commit to, what YOU are going to do to resist.

Here are some easy things to start with –

1. Stop buying from companies which do not align with your beliefs. It really isn’t necessary for you to have whatever you want delivered to your house within 48 hours. Try to find what you need from one of these companies. If you must have something immediately, go buy it locally. If you don’t have transportation, ask someone for a ride.

2. Cancel subscriptions and memberships which are enriching companies who are actively rolling back programs that support diversity, equity and inclusion.

3. Refamiliarize yourself with cash. Banks make billions on credit card fees and interest charges. Wouldn’t you rather see that money go to small business owners?

4. Speak up. Use your voice and your presence to demand that elected officials hold the people wrecking our economy, society and reputation, namely Trump and Musk, accountable. Make calls. Attend demonstrations and protests. Write letters.

5. Here’s an easy way to get started – go to the post office and buy pre-stamped postcards. They’ll set you back $.62 each. Write your message on the back, address it (see below for inspiration) and drop it in the mail on Saturday, a day being promoted as the Ides of Trump.

It might not be much, but it’s a start. Do it.

*financially rich, bankrupt in every other way.
