If I were in charge of the world, on October 7th, 2023, my response to the atrocities committed against Israeli concert goers and, by extension, their families, their loved ones and all Jewish people, I would have locked Netanyahu, Yahya Sinwar and Mahmoud Abbas* in a room until they figured it the fuck out.
Outside of the room, there would be a complete ceasefire.
As for those in the room, nobody leaves until there’s a solution. An agreement must be made. Until then, they’re grounded. If the 3 people in the room were fairly elected, their job is to do what the people who voted for them want.
And, really, don’t we all want essentially the same thing – the opportunity to live peaceful lives with those we love?
Those outside of the room, the people who elected these leaders, should be able to have faith that their representatives are acting in the best interests of the people, not themselves. Make it so.
Killing tens of thousands of civilians, children, women and the elderly, serves no purpose other than to create subsequent generations who will perpetuate the chaos and foster continued hatred.
It has to stop.
What also must stop is the stoking of the flames of hatred in this country. Right now, during these most beautiful September days, our country is on the verge of imploding. The president, acting only on behalf of himself and his minions, is purposefully creating and fostering divisions between groups here – rich/poor, white/Black/brown, straight/LGBTQ+, liberal/conservative.
Pick your side and get ready for battle, because it really feels like it’s coming.
The events of this week and the onslaught of information and opinion and theory and assumption is literally making me dizzy. I need a break.
A self-imposed media timeout is necessary.
I can’t keep up with the pace and I don’t want to.
Something has to give…and I have to stop letting it be my own peace of mind.
Take care of yourselves and those you love.
