Sunday’s Pride Parade and celebration was absolutely epic. The forecast was for cloudy skies but Mother Nature wasn’t having it and instead beamed sunshine down on an event that somehow manages to both make me smile so hard my cheeks hurt and cry. Sometimes simultaneously.
I attend this event not because I identify as anything other than cis, white and female, but because I want to honor, support and celebrate those who might not. I always see friends at this fest, which always makes the day more fun, but the most compelling reason for me to go is for my students, both current and past. I want them to know that I see them, I accept them and I’ll always have their backs.

This year’s celebration may have been my favorite yet, but this isn’t just a one day event. I’m there for the LGBTQIA+ community 365 days a year, especially during these times of increasingly more frequent attempts to silence and erase this population.
Speaking of noise, the chants and songs always sound great, but nothing sounds better to my ears than hearing a student say to their parent “That’s my librarian.” ♥️
