Death comes in threes

Tuesday was the 5th anniversary of Insurrection day. I understand that this occasion was marked by the current regime as a day to unleash a new stream of lies about the occasion, but I know what I witnessed sitting at my desk crying – I had been watching the attempt of Donald Trump’s minions to overthrow the government.

Wednesday, from multiple angles, I saw a masked, armed male, a member of Donald Trump’s personal gestapo, aggressively pursue, and ultimately murder, a woman in Minneapolis. Her name was Renee Nicole Good and the person who shot her three times, as she drove away from a bad situation, needs to be charged with her murder. The videos are quite clear about what happened, despite what the regime is trying to claim.

In the middle of the night, instead of sleeping as I wish to, I stare at the ceiling and wonder to myself: which death will come first?

Will it be my mother who, Sunday, at the age of 87, suffered her most recent stroke? She is, as my oldest son remarked, a “tough old bird,” but eventually one of these affronts to her body will surely take her life. While she and I have had a relationship filled with resentments and estrangements, I hope that when death comes for her, it is quick and decisive in its work.

I don’t want her to suffer.

Jeter turned twelve last month and his energy has shown a marked downward turn. In recent months, I’ve noticed that he isn’t as inclined to jump on people in greeting with his former Labbie enthusiasm. He’s also become more assertive, at times, about expressing his disinterest in taking an extended walk, practically digging his heels into the pavement and yanking his head back in the direction of home.

This beautiful boy has been my most constant companion for nearly 12 years and when it’s his time to go, I am going to be inconsolable. He really has been the best knucklehead I have ever been fortunate enough to have been loved by. Here’s hoping we are both able to live up to our original agreement – my vow was to provide him with the best life imaginable and in return he will let me know without question when he has had enough.

Not yet, though, buddy. Ok?

The third now anticipated death is that of this country’s democracy. With the actions we are witnessing daily, it is distinctly possible that this demise has already occurred.

When an illegitimate “law enforcement” agency is committing coldblooded murder in the streets, there is no democracy.

When a president declares that the only standard that he is held to is his own morality, there is no democracy.

When billionaires buy elections, there is no democracy.

When a country’s policies are based upon its superpower status and superior weaponry, there is no democracy.

One death down, two to go.
