Flowers + Friends + Finn’s = Fun

Am I alone in thinking that as the days get longer, life gets busier? It feels like the past couple of weeks have been really jam packed with events, work and household tasks, leaving little time for reflecting or writing. I would be remiss, however, if I failed to share my most recent Troy adventure because it sure was fun.

The inspiration for our group of six to get together for the evening was Troy’s annual hidden garden tour. Naturally, food and drinks would need to follow our traipsing around, which provided the perfect opportunity for us to finally get to Finn’s, a place I’ve been wanting to try for weeks.

The forecast had initially looked less than ideal, but the afternoon turned out to be beautiful with plenty of sunshine. We rendezvoused for a quick pre-tour drink and then got ourselves to the starting point for our self-guided ramble. It was the 25th occasion for this fundraiser, organized by the Friends of Prospect Park, and they’ve got it down. While there were some minor issues with the scale of the map, generally all the properties were well marked and in close proximity to one another.

My few pictures don’t capture the uniqueness of each of the gardens we visited. There were so many different styles – shady, hardscaped, primarily potted, etc. It really was a treat to peek into private backyards and gardens, though, and I’d definitely like to do this tour again.

I’m also hoping to get back to Finn’s before too much time passes. The food and service were both really great and the space in which both were delivered was very cool. I don’t know the origins of the building, but I imagine it was some sort of industrial building, complete with parking and an operable large garage door to let in the outdoors.

We arrived on time for our reservation and were brought to a comfortably large high top table that easily accommodated the six of us. We jumped in with drinks and some shareable (lamb meatballs and smoked trout dip) plates before selecting our own individual entrees. I went with the burger and it was a delightfully delicious mess with all of the components well sourced and put together nicely. Everyone was happy with their food and the overall hospitality we received. It’s so nice to go some place and be taken care of by professional and capable folks and that’s definitely what you get here. I’m looking forward to exploring their menu since making my dinner choice was not easy. It all sounded great!

Looks good, right?

It’s now two weeks since our own Troy night out and the laughter we shared is still ringing in my ears. Really – what’s better than flowers, friends and food?
