Since I became 58…

I’ve become more gentle with myself.

Instead of 5 yoga classes a week, I’m content with 4.

I step on my digital scale exclusively on Friday mornings.

A two day weekend is my new norm – I’m not doing a regular side hustle.

I want to dance more.

Observing my sons brings me more joy than ever.

Since I don’t generally work on weekends I do things like hike, meet a friend for drinks or make brioche dough.

I say “I love you” to more people.

Audiobooks are becoming a thing, especially when paired with walking Jeter.

I don’t want to wear clothing that isn’t comfortable and soft and roomy.

Eliminating possessions seems easier.

The hour or so I spend with my mother each month leaves me feeling more bemused than stressed.

Holidays don’t really mean much to me.

Positive progress has been made in my perpetual struggle to honor and accept my body. I’m getting there!

Sixty and retirement are beckoning.

  1. I agree with a lot of what you said. I made it to 70 last month. Several of my high school friends didn’t. I try to live every day like it is my last

      1. A little bit of both. After serving 22 years, I simply couldn’t do it anymore. I’d seen things that nobody should ever have to see, and I knew in my heart that I could no longer give 110% of myself, as I played the main character of an action film (it felt like this sometimes).

  2. Good for you, I’ve been in a similar mindset recently. My husband and I are so busy with our business that we never have time for ourselves, and I worry we sometimes push ourselves too much. It’s inspiring to hear you set such defined boundaries for yourself, I’d like to do the same. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thanks for your comment! Finding balance, and working to foster it, is a lifelong goal. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving and are able to take some time to truly enjoy it.
