Protesting (&) solitary confinement

Saturday, April 5th is looming large on my calendar – and hopefully yours as well. In my mind, tomorrow is the day when rational, peacefully empathetic people are going to communicate their absolute refusal to live in the country that Donald Trump is trying to turn the U.S. into.

That country, one where oligarchs receive every advantage at the expense of those in need and fundamental aspects of a civilized society, such as access to education, health care and housing are denied, is quickly becoming a reality. Isolationist policies and punishing tariffs are making Trump’s America not great by any measure, other than for the 1% whose only currency is wealth.

Weather wise, it looks like it’s going to be unpleasant, with cold and steady rain being predicted. Do not allow yourself to be discouraged or dissuaded from attending. Bundle up, grab waterproof boots, and an umbrella, and be there.

The weather forecast, even if it materializes, is far more benign than a future with the current (and promised future into perpetuity) government in office. Make no mistake – they are destroying the U.S. and will not stop until all glimmers of true democracy are gone.

This is not a test.

It’s a funny thing – while I am eager to stand shoulder to shoulder with other citizens and residents of the country where I was born politically, socially, I find myself seeking isolation. Maybe it’s working six days a week in settings that place me in situations with lots of people, or just a general feeling of human exhaustion in it’s most literal sense, but I really want need to be alone these days.

So, tomorrow we rally.

On Sunday, I’ll rest.
