Eyes on the pie

I mentioned in a previous post that I had visited The Pie Bar in Florence, MA, during my time pet sitting in Northampton. After having enjoyed 2 slices of the peach crumb pie I brought home with me, I feel the need to expand upon my prior minimal impression.

It is the perfect peach pie.

Period.

Now, I’ve had peach pie before. I’ve even had very good peach pies in the past, with my favorite being from the Tally-Ho Restaurant, west of Albany in Richfield Springs. But that very fine pie was a two crust version, while I’ll always opt for a fruit pie with a crumb topping, which is what The Pie Bar rendition is. It isn’t just any crumb topping either – it’s the ideal combination of brown sugar, oats, cinnamon and perhaps some butter cut in…in fact, it might just be the best streusel crumb topping I’ve ever had.

Just look at it! Beautifully brown with the remnants of peach juice syrup bubbles around the crust – what more could a person want? Beyond some vanilla ice cream on top, of course.

I can’t say that I’ll be driving 90+ minutes each way to buy a pie, but I most definitely will consider The Pie Bar to have set the bar for the best peach pie ever. Unless, you’ve got some thoughts on this topic? Please do share!
