It’s ok if you’re just now, on the second day of October, cracking the cover on the last book from your summer reading list. It remains an accomplishment.
Running just 2 consecutive miles under the nearly full Harvest Moon felt really hard, but I pushed through. It was a reminder that recovery from injury or intervention (primarily medical), is a long process. We’re all just works in progress, though, isn’t that right?
If biking weren’t so weather contingent, I think I could make it fill the gap in my cardio schedule. I’ve been on my bike twice in the last two weeks and it was enjoyable. I do, however, need to take a bike maintenance course. I don’t like not knowing basic stuff or having to rely on others to help me to troubleshoot issues with my hybrid Trek.
Impactful words come from many places, but this thought came out of the dark, literally:
”Your weight is the least interesting thing about you.”
It was early in one of my favorite yoga classes, Candlelight Flow. Those words, spoken in the softest voice by the teacher, were mind blowingly profound to me and I’ve been thinking about them ever since. What, if anything, does that sentence mean to you?
Why is it that getting outdoors is both free and one of life’s greatest luxuries? I mean, seriously, I would pay good money for the opportunity to spend more time outside in the magnificent weather we’re currently experiencing.
Speaking of getting outdoors, on Sunday we visited a new trail up in Grafton, the Valentino Family Community Forest, and it was gorgeous. Wear waterproof boots, bring your leashed pooch and get there for a beautiful walk around two small ponds. The foliage is starting to pop and you shouldn’t miss it.

If you’re hungry after your hike, stop in at the new barbecue spot, Hill Creek Tavern, just down the road from the trailhead. Our group of 5 thoroughly enjoyed our dinners, with the ribs and brisket being particular standouts. There were plentiful options for vegans and lots of good beer on tap, and, yes, your dog is welcome on their large patio! Go early – it gets busy.
With tickets in hand for 2024 to visit both sides of my family, I’m already looking forward to next year. That being said, there’s still plenty of life to experience between now and then. Go get it, friends.
