A sublime Sunday.

It started with one of my favorite yoga classes at The Hot Yoga Spot – core focused flow. This never-quite-the-same -twice practice turns me into a sweaty mess, but the returns are real. My abdomen is definitely reaping the rewards of 60 minutes spent on my mat breathing through crunches, high and low boat poses and standing birddogs galore.

My next stop was at Pearl’s for bagels. I understand folks are really excited for the latest Uncommon Grounds opening (Delmar location), but I’m loyal to Pearl’s and their perfectly sized, crunchy on the outside and soft in the center, bagels. I timed things correctly and was in and out with my dozen bagels, distributed amongst three bags to easier share with the Lilly boys) and on my way home.

My work as a bagel fairy complete, I sat with the Sunday NYT for an hour, sampled the lentil squash soup I had thrown together the previous day and put a few things I would need for my late afternoon HUHT sauna sesh in Chatham. Yes, I had booked another (my third) 90 minute session for myself.

Sauna life is my vibe, I think – especially when I’ve worked 8 out of the last 9 nights at the restaurant.

The heat was intense, but welcome, and I very much enjoyed getting my sweat on. When the temperature felt like too much, I simply stepped outside and let the soft, cold rain cool me down. It was just what I needed before dinner at Nightbird.

What’s Nightbird, you ask? Well, The Aviary in Kinderhook has been offering a pop up menu of sorts on Sunday evenings which features a cohesive selection of plates highlighting a particular cuisine. The night’s menu was a homage to Chinese takeout and I was excited to sample a number of the items.

N and I each decided on one must try item, giving the chefs the freedom to round out the meal with their favorite dishes. It’s a dining technique that I find to be satisfying for all involved and damn, these guys knocked it out of the park. Every single morsel was fantastic, with the squid with salt and pepper and the beef and broccoli being particular standouts.

The final Nightbird popup is Sunday, 3/29, and I’m seriously considering a return visit. It was that good. Actually, I may just try to replicate the entire day because I enjoyed each aspect of it so completely. If ever there was a day to play on repeat, this was it. It was sublime.
