6 things you should know

I’m here to refute every person who claims there’s nothing cool going on around here when the reality is there are actually more fun things to do than there are hours in the day. Here are a few that are on my radar right now:

  • First Friday – at the Eleven. This Friday Tops of Trees make their debut at Lark Street’s The Eleven. This free show starts at 6:00 and I’d expect there to be a crowd on hand to check out this up and coming local band.
  • The Phoenician Scheme arrives in theaters this week. A new Wes Anderson flick will get me to the theater every time, especially when it’s playing at neighborhood favorite, Scene One Spectrum 8.
  • We’ll want a little something after the film, so we’ll be heading next door to The Delaware to enjoy their Fryay Special of $10 martinis, served with gratis fries. It’s consistently one of the best weekend openers in town.
  • Looking to get out of town? Why not take a ride to beautiful Columbia County? Yes, I know, everyone thinks Saratoga is the place, but for those who prefer scenic drives and mountain views, head south for the win. Time your visit to Klocke Estate to catch a late tour of their distillery and the sun dropping behind the Catskill range. It’s the Hudson Valley at its best.
  • Haema Hospitality features “Asian street food-inspired cuisine” and hold pop up events around the Hudson Valley. Partners Hannah Wong and SJ McLaughlin bring a wealth of hospitality experience to their creative endeavors and we’ve been fortunate to catch up with them a couple of times in various locations, including last Sunday’s appearance at the Old Chatham Country Store. We thoroughly enjoyed the menu and everything we sampled. Do not snooze on the ribs or the hamachi crudo (pictured above) if they’re on the menu.
  • The Pony Show at The Grange. There will be no better place to be on June 18th than at this gorgeous Greene County spot watching the sun set over the pristine Catskill Mountains with a plate of locally sourced and deftly prepared ingredients. The last one of these we caught was outstanding and I have no doubt that this almost summer event will be on the same level.

There’s one other thing that you should get clued in on – The Dishing. This new site is devoted to getting you up to speed with where to go, who to see and what to put in your mouth. Subscribe so you won’t miss a thing!

What did I miss? What’s on your radar?
