This first September of freedom retirement contains a number of events that I’m happy my less committed calendar will allow me to attend. While I’m unable to do all of them* I absolutely will be hitting at least a couple of these happenings.
- Let’s begin with a Back to School night that everyone can get behind – Back to School Snacky Hour at June Farms. Unlike the usual boring traipse through the hallways of your child’s school with schedule in hand, this event promises to be fun. Here are the deets from The Dishing’s website:
Calling all teachers — come celebrate the end of summer + dance under the stars. Our Back to School Snacky Hour is at June Farms with DJ Trumastr bringing the beat + Trinel McDermott, Tess Collins + Matt Baumgartner—from the June Farms TV show—behind the stick.
Between 5 and 6p.m. (only) receive a complimentary frozen margarita in the Pony Barn. Sign up for the newsletter to get your complimentary drink. The full event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Snacky Hour is 5 to 6 p.m.
Education degree not required.
- As always, the Scene One Spectrum Theater is bringing an important film, that you won’t catch on any other local screen, to town. American Doctor, a recently released to theaters documentary, presents the experiences of three doctors from diverse backgrounds as they provide medical care in the south of Gaza. I anticipate that it will be very difficult to watch – and that’s exactly why I believe one must.

- It’s that time of year again – Yogapalooza is happening (for the 10th year!) downtown on Saturday, September 12th at 11:00 a.m. This North Pearl Street annual event, led by The Hot Yoga Spot, is one of my late summer favorites and I can’t wait to roll my mat out with hundreds of other yogis looking to get loose and limber to prepare for a day of live music as Pearlpalooza takes over downtown.
Free to all, but registration is required.
- If you’re looking to enjoy an adult night out with fantastic food paired with beautiful wines, get yourself to The Den on Wednesday, September 23rd. Michelle Montini, the wildly talented chef at Nicole’s Restaurant, has created a beautiful 5 course menu which will be paired with gorgeous Banfi wines for a culinary delight of an evening. From start to finish, this sounds fantastic!
